Entry from: La Paz, Bolivia Entry Title: "The World's Most Dangerous Road" Entry: "Picked up 700 by the bike company that would take us down "The Worls's Most Dangerous Rd" . Present were me, Mike, Jo, Damo, Colin, Mel, Jas, Iceman, Doug, Bily driver Luke, Diana, Tachurya. We had breakfast in La Paz and I was last to get to use the toilet there but without going into detail it was needed. We were then taken up to La Cumbre (4600m, bleak and snow covered nearby) where we were given waterproof jackets, day glo prange vests, gloves and a mountain bike and set off down the mountain. It was a bitumin rd here and we made up to 65 km per hour watching for cars and dodging past the slow moving buses we encountered while taking in the gorgeous mountain views (when we dared look up from the road that is!) Had been a bit annoyed at the US 65 we paid for this but it was worth it!! We had a few stops, including one from drug searches (we weren't actually searched though). Then came an uphill sectin and that sucked! Still about 3600m up so everyone was gasping for breath up this particularly nasty 500m hill and eventually most of us walked up it. Poor Jo had been sick in the morning (ie. thrown up) and rode he intiial downhill anyway bt when we came to a brief stretch of downhill gravel it was too much for her so ...
